Joe Dlamini

– Tour legend

Biography

Joe Dlamini stands as a trailblazer for Black golf in Southern Africa. Hailing from Swaziland (now Eswatini), he became one of the first Black professionals from the kingdom to find real success on the Southern African circuit, winning events such as the Marley Classic and contending regularly against the region’s best.

In 1990, he finished runner-up at the Royal Swazi Open, pushing future European Tour winners all the way and showing that talent from beyond South Africa’s borders could thrive on regional tours.

Dlamini’s impact went far beyond scorecards. For a long stretch he was effectively the standard-bearer for non-white professionals from Swaziland, and his success became a symbol of what was possible in a changing South Africa.

He was later inducted into the Southern Africa Golf Hall of Fame, formal recognition of his role in opening doors for the next generations.  His legacy sits naturally alongside the Sunshine Legends Tour: a reminder that the Tour’s story is also about opportunity and representation across the region.
