Biography
Elegant and consistent, Hugh Baiocchi was one of South Africa’s dominant forces from the 1970s into the 1980s.
Turning professional in 1971, he became a fixture on the European Tour, winning six titles and regularly ranking near the top of the Order of Merit. Back home, he was a prolific winner on the Southern Africa Tour, capturing more than ten titles and topping the Order of Merit in the 1978–79 season.
As a senior, Baiocchi transitioned seamlessly to the U.S. Champions Tour, where he added multiple victories and further enhanced the reputation of South African golf on the world stage.
He has also contributed as a course designer, lending his eye and playing experience to layouts across the globe. Baiocchi represents the archetypal Sunshine Legend: a home-grown star who proved he could win anywhere, in any company.
