Mark McNulty

COUNTRY: Zimbabwe
D.O.B: 24/3/1953
PRO SINCE: 1977
HOME CLUB: Sunningdale

Even in the senior game, his reputation for exquisite putting and relentless consistency remained intact. For the Sunshine Legends Tour, McNulty is a touchstone: a player who proved that a career built on Southern African fairways can stand comparison with any in world golf, and a reminder to today’s over-50s that there is still plenty to play for.

Measured on pure numbers, Mark McNulty is one of the most successful professionals ever to come out of Southern Africa. Measured on influence, he’s every bit as significant.

Born in Bindura, Zimbabwe, and later representing Ireland, McNulty built his game on the fairways of the Sunshine Tour before taking it to Europe and, ultimately, the world. He amassed 59 professional victories, including 33 Sunshine Tour wins – second only to Gary Player – and 16 titles on the European Tour, where he spent 83 weeks inside the world’s top 10 during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

At home he was a dominant force, winning a record nine Sunshine Tour Order of Merit titles and crafting some of the Tour’s most iconic performances, including a seven-win season in 1986 and a long-standing low-to-par record at the Royal Swazi Sun.

Abroad he became a fixture in major championships, finishing runner-up at the 1990 Open Championship at St Andrews, and representing Zimbabwe repeatedly at the World Cup and Alfred Dunhill Cup alongside fellow greats Nick Price and Tony Johnstone.

Turning 50 opened a third chapter. McNulty joined the U.S. Champions Tour, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2004 and went on to win eight times, including the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the 2007 JELD-WEN Tradition, one of the senior majors.
