Doug was born in Durban, and started golf aged 7. He took to the game immediately. However, he was equally passionate about football, and played provincial soccer for 9 years.
He has a keen interest in landscaping and as a result has set up a golf architecture company.
He was the first Swiss to qualify and compete in The Open in 1994.
In 1990 he made the course record of 64 at the Golf + Country Club Neuchatel and in 2001 at the Moscow Golf + Country Club with 63 strokes.
